The Wall Street rag in the airport lounge
Predicted a hike in the lending rate
My eyes fled the page, moving up to engage
A raven-haired girl who was checkin' her flight gate
Perfect geography and a flawless face
All too briefly her eyes turned to meet my gaze
And when her moment'ry smile seemed to last forever
I got this feeling I can't explain, of a...
A memory of a Paris night
A long long time ago
When a girl took my ring and said yes to our wedding
We sipped Dom Perignon
And I waltzed her round the tables
As the band played songs by Strauss
And I felt my sun rise as I looked in her eyes
And we danced into the dawn
She shouldered her bag, bought a guide book of Paris
And started to make for the flight gate alone
Tossed her long silken hair looking back for a moment
And her eyes told me things I couldn't have known
I was overcome by the strangest feeling
That out of one body two lives were entwined
She'd put a key in the hole of the door to my soul
To seek out what lay behind, of a...
A memory of a Paris night
A long long time ago
When a girl took my ring and said yes to our wedding
We sipped Dom Perignon
And I waltzed her round the tables
As the band played songs by Strauss
And I felt my sun rise as I looked in her eyes
And we danced into the dawn
From another time and a place I'd never been
The waltzing girl's face now haunted me within
As the girl at the flight gate turned to me again
Two faces fused into one............
Well I was never inclined to an impulse or dare
Think I'm 'bout as regular a guy as they go
I got a good career, I enjoy a beer
And sun-kissed vacations down in Mexico
Ain't no reason I could find to tell
As I'm standing in line to board this flight
That instead of me winging my way to Milwaukee
I'm flying eastbound to Paris tonight, and I'll....
Dance away the Paris night
Like a past life long ago
And indulge in the nightlife instead of this half-life
And sip Dom Perignon
And maybe I will dance with her
Coz I've got this feelin' strong
And feel my sun rise as I look in her eyes
As we dance into the dawn
